New England Science and Sailing Foundation

Mission: The mission of New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) is to empower students with a love of learning through ocean based experiential programs that serve schools, teachers, and families. NESS offers a unique education model that empowers students with leadership, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving skills to ensure academic success. Our goal is to advance academic opportunities for K-12 students of all backgrounds in both urban and suburban markets. We hope you will play a role in helping us continue this important educational mission—in person, online, or on the water! This STEM-based curriculum includes marine science, sailing, power boating, and adventure sports. NESS is the first, and only, program of its kind to be accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Project Summary: The New England Science & Sailing Foundation created a new program, NESS Shore Support, to meet the needs of parents, students, and caregivers during the pandemic. Shore Support provides learning support during online and hybrid schooling via enrichment programs, mentorship, and homework help. Aligned with NESS’s mission, Shore Support provides enriching science and sailing programs designed to empower learning and improve socio-emotional skills during the students’ free time. This project proposes using funding from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation’s Environmental Education & Stewardship Grant to fund student scholarships, staff and student PPE, and expanded program activities.
